The gallant soldiers succeeded in defeating various military strategies of the LTTE terrorists.Our Special Representative Sujith Vithana Pathirana reporting from the battlefront said troops of the 59th Division advancing towards Mulleyaweli shattered LTTE defence bunds which had been constructed with the aim of preventing the advancement of the troops. The victory was achieved after several days of fierce fighting. These bunds clearly indicate the untiring efforts made by the LTTE to protect Mulleyaweli. However, they did not succeed in this effort. The bunds had been built by the terrorists obstructing the main road running from Nedunkerni to Mulleyaweli. The nearby shrubs of the bunds had been cleared by the terrorists with the purpose of targeting attacks on the advancing troops. The 593rd Brigade headed by Colonel Jayantha Gunaratne of the 59th Division, the 7th Gemunu Regiment and the 15th Infantry Regiment succeeded in destroying these bunds and continuing their advancement in the midst of heavy fighting. Mulleyaweli is located close to Mullaitivu. Our Special Representative said the LTTE is now facing a serious challenge of protecting their Mullaitivu strongpoint with the fall of Mulleyaweli. | Wanni Operation 18/10/2008 - Air Force uplifts mentality of impacted childrenSat, 29 Nov 2008 12:24:47 -0800 by goodtolove283abcAir Force uplifts mentality of impacted children The Sri Lanka Air Force which makes a major contribution to the operations to liberate the North from the terrorists is discharging a major task to uplift the mental conditions of children impacted by violence. They held a programme recently in this respect. The programme was launched under the guidance of Air Force Commander Air Marshal Roshan Gunatilake. The Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit supported it. Its President Nelum Gunatillake and Medical Health Director of the Air Force Air Vice Marshal Nimal Gunaratne rendered a noble service. It was launched to mark Universal Childrens Day. It was held at the Morawewa Air Base with the support of the Morawewa South Sinhala Vidyalaya, the Aveinagar Government Tamil School and the Namalwatte Muslim Vidyalaya. Several events were held for the innocent children, marginalised in an area which was under the threat of the terrorists. A medical clinic was part of the programme. Children and teachers received a gift parcels, each worth over 3000 rupees.
