I put on my purple dress with the leggings. I looked at myself in the mirror and decided I looked great. Thats a first I usually think I look horrible. I knocked on Sams door, to see if she was ready. Ill be down in a minute. She said. I went to Trishs room and she was in jeans a nice top. I could tell she did not want to go out. Isaac Newton is, as most will agree, the greatest physicist of all time.At the very least, he is the undisputed father of modern optics, or so we are told at school where our textbooks abound with his famous experiments with lenses and prisms, his study of the nature of light and its reflection, and the refraction and decomposition of light into the colours of the rainbow.Yet, the truth is rather greyer; and I feel it important to point out that, certainly in the field of optics, Newton himself stood on the shoulders of a giant who lived 700 years earlier.For, without doubt, another great physicist, who is worthy of ranking up alongside Newton, is a scientist born in AD 965 in what is now Iraq who went by the name of al-Hassan Ibn al-Haytham.Most people in the West will never have even heard of him.As a physicist myself, I am quite in awe of this man's contribution to my field, but I was fortunate enough to have recently been given the opportunity to dig a little into his life and work through my recent filming of a three-part BBC Four series on medieval Islamic scientists.Modern methodsPopular accounts of the history of science typically suggest that no major scientific advances took place in between the ancient Greeks and the European Renaissance.But just because Western Europe languished in the Dark Ages, does not mean there was stagnation elsewhere. I just stared at her."What?" She saked"Your kidding." I said shocked."What,, my clothes?? This is how I always dress" She said to me."Not anymore" I said. I grabbed her hand and dragged her up my steps into my room."Your room is huge" She said in awe."Yeah yeah yeah,, whats your favorite color??" I asked her."Purple. Why??""Tank top,, halter,,tube top,, or Cami?" I asked her."Tank top." She said quickly."You dont know what a tube top is,, do you??" I asked. This girl was clueless."No,, why?""Becuase you would look SO HAWT in a tube top!" I said. And I knew what I was talking about. I mean,,whos the fashion expert here anyway??"Ok,, fine,,whatever you say." I handed her my purple tube top and she slid it on. She liked how it looked on her."I love it." She said shyly."Coolness" She was already wearing Jeans."Now,, Shoes" I said. "Ever wear heels?""No."She said flatly."Ok." I handed her purple wedges. Shes not ready for pumps yet. We'll work up to that. She slid off her converse and put on the wedges."Now,," I said "Walk in them"We spent about 15 minutes just practicing walking in them. Afterwards,, I did her hair and makeup. She had nice hair,, but no one would know becuase she always had it up in a ponytail. I straightened it and put black eyeliner on her with purple eyeshadow. When she looked in my mirror,, she smiled so wide,, I swear it was gonna get stuck that way."You like?" I said."I love" She replied,, still smiling."Phase one,, complete. | UFO new jersey 5-1-09Wed, 07 Jan 2009 09:12:51 -0800 by johnny24865622New Jersey-01-05-09-Whil e driving home near interstate 287 northbound, I pulled over to watch the lights. They lasted about 15-20 minutes, then shot off into the distance. I took a short video taken with my camera. My passenger and I both experienced awe as we watched. Neither of us have seen anything remotely close to this before. The lights must have been visible for miles. They changed in pattern and shape throughout the 20 minutes or so.
